| Entrance Requirements |
| 1. All students must be eighteen years of age on or before the first day of class. 2. Students must possess a High School Diploma or a General Education Development Certificate (G.E.D.) 3. The minimum education requirement for enrollment is the Ability to Benefit which is defined as: a. Ninth (9th) grade reading and math level as measured by the Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE). b. An interview with the admissions officer to review the TABE scores of the student and to discuss any prerequisites needed for enrollment. 4. Applicants must submit a completed Admission Application, which includes an essay question. 5. Applicants should be in good health. We may require written documentation of the student’s level of physical fitness for this program from a student’s physician. Students must provide documentation of a satisfactory Mantoux test performed within a 12 month-period prior to admission. Massage and Bodywork can be physically demanding, and not all individuals will be capable of performing the methods taught by The School of Integrative Therapies. 6. Applicants are encouraged to receive at least one massage or bodywork session from a representative of the school. This is especially important for the Structural Integration program, as individuals may be unaware of the quality of touch required for this work. 7. A satisfactory admissions interview is required with a School Director for entry into a program. Applicants are interviewed for the following: a. Prior education, work experience, and exposure to massage and bodywork b. Motivation and commitment to undertake and complete the program of study c. Ability to academically and physically complete the program d. Personal character and ethical standards e. Programs may require outside practice, study, and internship. Candidates must demonstrate appropriate time management abilities. f. Financial ability to pay for the program 8. Students entering the Structural Integration Certification Program must have completed an approved 500-hour program of massage therapy and/or demonstrate equivalent work experience. Students must demonstrate current knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology to the satisfaction of the program’s Director during a personal interview. If an individual has completed their massage therapy training within a 2 year period prior to the beginning of this program, their competency must be demonstrated in one or more of the following manners: a. Demonstration of their hands-on skills to the program Director’s satisfaction; or b. Verbal Presentation at least 10 minutes in length discussing their understanding of the role that connective tissue plays in the body and the composition and structure of connective tissue in the human body; or c. A letter of recommendation from at least one of the applicant’s primary instructors stating their assessment of student’s readiness to comprehend and assimilate this training into the student’s practice. Candidates must be physically capable of doing this type of work and be free of major structural weaknesses which could prohibit them from successfully completing this program. Students in this program must show evidence of massage practitioner liability insurance. 9. Once accepted, the applicant and a school director shall sign a School Enrollment Agreement. Students must pay a non-refundable registration fee to reserve a class space. 10. The School of Integrative Therapies prohibits discrimination in all its programs and activities and, within the limitations imposed by space and personnel availability admits all qualified applicants regardless of race, color, national origin, ethnicity, gender, religion, age, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation, and marital or family status, on a first-come, first-served basis. Qualified applicants with disabilities who require alternative means for communication of program information (Braille, large print, audiotape, etc.) will be accommodated to the extent of the school’s ability. |
